Spiritual Connection #3
Balanced self-care
One way of being assured of having balanced self-care is by “living in God’s Spirit,” in all areas of your life; being connected to His Spirit with family issues and financial concerns; being connected with His Spirit with mental and physical health issues, with social connections and civic involvement; and being connected with His Spirit with personal initiatives, challenges and aspirations. In other words surrendering all areas of your life to Him.
Most of us simply don’t have the discipline, motivation or tenacity to consistently take good care of all the different areas of our lives. However, with a spiritual connection or the Love of God, it is all within reach. So, by all means, keep that spiritual connection to the one for-sure source who can provide that needed support.
Balanced self-care has benefits:
• Every area of your life (that you are taking good care of) is better off because of your efforts – God is pleased.
• You actually look & feel a lot better than you would otherwise – less worry, less anxiety and a lot less stress- you are taking care of God’s temple.
• You have a lot more financial options because of your being more financially responsible – you are being a good steward.
• Research has shown mental health benefits from helping someone else; you are helping your fellow man.
• When you take good care of yourself (and others) today; you have reserves built up for tomorrow- you are being obedient.
• When you have been taking good care of yourself for a long period of time, you don’t have to feel guilty when you have an occasional junk food meal, when you take a short break from your regular exercise regimen or when you splurge on that special occasion – you have an abundant life.
• You have a much higher quality of life when you have a spiritual connection. Matthew 6:33 says: “Seek 1st His Kingdom & His Righteousness and all these things will be added to you”– good health, financial freedom, Godly friends to socialize with, and improved family relationships – you are being blessed.
• You are a great example for others – you are being a good witness.
