Healthy Living Quality Life – Balanced self-care – Spiritual Connection #2
Spiritual connection
LOVE connects the Spirit with self-care. LOVE for self, LOVE for others and LOVE for God.
You are making a spiritual connection in a self-caring way when you act on God’s word: Matthew 22:37-39 ‘LOVE the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind.’ This is the first and greatest commandment. And the second is like it: ‘LOVE your neighbor as yourself.’
If everyone showed LOVE for self (and for others) and acted on that LOVE in all areas of their lives, the world would be a better place – That’s balanced self-love in action!
It’s all about LOVE; loving yourself enough to take good care of yourself is showing LOVE for God. If only our LOVE could imitate GOD’S LOVE. With GOD’S LOVE, we can get that needed motivation to LOVE self and others.

Writer Jeff Levin (2010) describes the awesomeness of GOD’S LOVE which he calls “Divine Love.” Levin talks about “the ultimate aim for many of the world’s major faith traditions is to love and be loved by God—to live in connection with the Divine, in union with the Beloved, in reconciliation with the Ultimate.” He goes on to say:
To be loved by God, to enter into a mutual and covenantal relationship with the Divine, may well offer solutions to many of the current crises around the world. Only a loving relationship with the Source of being within the context of the great faith and wisdom traditions of the world can fully inform and motivate the acts of love, unity, justice, compassion, kindness, and mercy for all beings that are so desperately required to counter the toxic influences in the world. (Levin & Post, 2010).
LOVE is, in fact, the answer to a lot of questions. I think balanced self-care certainly qualifies as a good start toward universal human kindness, first starting with yourself then extending that LOVE for others.
You are loving God with your whole life and providing a great example for others, when you are being financially responsible; taking care of His temple–your body (with a healthy diet, regular exercise and not stressing yourself out); honoring your family responsibilities; being civically involved by helping others; finding your calling in your work (hopefully your passion and purpose in life); fellowshipping socially with like-minded Christians, and living a lifestyle that is pleasing to God.
The power of a spiritual connection is limitless! Likewise, balanced self-care has few limits. When you are taking care of yourself in all areas of your life, you are increasing your potential in each area that is being taken care of. That’s a connection we can all use!
Be Bless,
