Social Connection

My Tenth (#10), “Quality Living” Tip of the Day – Wednesday, Dec. 30, 2020
The Tip for Today is: “Social Connection”

The most responsible social connections are done electronically or from a safe and responsible distance. Please don’t let “sheltering in place” isolate you from friends, family and other social outlets. And please don’t risk infecting someone or risk being infected yourself. Do make those social connections, responsibly!

Romans 1:11 “For I long to see you, that I may impart to you some spiritual gift to strengthen you.”

Matthew 18:20 “For where two or three are gathered in my name, there am I among them.”

I Corinthians 14:26 “What then, brothers? When you come together, each one has a hymn, a lesson, a revelation, a tongue, or an interpretation. Let all things be done for building up.

Social connection is not only Biblical, it is necessary for our well-being. It must be done responsibly.

James 4:7 says, “So whoever knows the right thing to do and fails to do it, for him it is sin.

According to Julianne Holt-Lunstad, et. al (2010) “The quality and quantity of individuals’ social relationships has been linked not only to mental health but also to both morbidity (diseases) and mortality (death).” These researchers included data across 148 studies (308,849 participants) in their study: “Social Relationships and Mortality Risk.”

In that same mega study it shows the benefits of a network of social support, including the following:
• Improving the ability to cope with stressful situations
• Alleviating the effects of emotional distress
• Promoting lifelong good mental health
• Enhancing self-esteem

Scripture references: Romans 1:11; Matthew 18:20; I Corinthians 14:26; James 4:7

Book reference: Chapter 11 “Social Connection,” from the book, Health Living Quality Life.

On Thursday, Dec. 17, 2020 I said it would be fair to say that most people would like to have a quality life. I also said that I know a lot about living a quality life. And, for at least the next few weeks (until the end of the year), I will be writing a few paragraphs (almost every day, probably not Fridays and Sundays) on different topics related to living a quality life.

Before I go to bed, I will give a “Quality Living Tip of the Day.” A corresponding Biblical Scripture will accompany each tip, along with a research reference mostly from the book, “Healthy Living Quality Life.”
