So, whether you eat or drink or whatever you do, do it all for the glory of God (I Corinthians 10:31). In other words, eat right for His glory; do physical and mental activities for His glory; sleep well for His glory; de-stress for His glory; and, everything you do, do it for His glory. God wants us to have an abundant, healthy life and He wants us to take care of your mind, body and soul, as a lifestyle, for His glory.
Having a healthy body is so important to your overall happiness, well-being, attitude and even how you interact with other people at church, in your family and with friends, colleagues and others. With a healthy body, you are more able to do what you want; you have more options in life and fewer limitations. You have more energy when you are eating a healthy, balanced diet, when you exercise and when you get sufficient sleep; you feel better more often, both physically and mentally. By the way, in view of God’s mercy and His grace, we are to offer our bodies as a living sacrifice, Holy and pleasing to God (Romans 12:1-2).
How can you get to be more physically healthy? Educate yourself in the following areas:
(1) Healthy Balanced Diet– Variety, moderation and balancing your food choices are the keys to healthy eating. Even though many healthy people do not completely deprive themselves of the foods they enjoy occasionally, you might consider working on acquiring a taste and love for more healthy foods. Most foods can fit into a healthy well-balanced diet. Unhealthy foods should be held to a bar minimum. Develop a taste for healthy foods such as vegetables, fruits and fish; try cutting down or cutting out red meats, eat turkey and chicken instead; lose the desire and/or need for unhealthy foods. (choose natural as opposed to processed foods); whole grains, beans, nuts, choose to bake, grill or broil rather than fried. The nutrients your body needs come from the food you choose to eat. Be good to your body and your body will likely be good to you!
(2) Regular Physical Exercise– Include exercise into your regular, daily (if possible) routine; walk more often; take the stairs instead of the elevator; be creative in thinking of ways to keep moving: play an active sport; join a gym; do 5-minute stretching and balancing exercises, just about anytime and anywhere. You will be surprised how much of a difference it makes in your life when you exercise regularly. Try it for 30 days and see.
(3) De-stress– Research has shown stress to be a silent killer.
